Q. How is Celebrate Recovery different from other recovery groups?
A. In some ways, Celebrate Recovery is similar to other 12-Step recovery groups. There are also some ways that it is very different. We eat together weekly. We believe that eating together in a safe place helps us to build healthy relationships, something that is necessary for recovery. We worship by singing together every week as part of our large group time. We also claim Jesus Christ as our "higher power." Celebrate Recovery has taken the 12-Steps and paired them with biblical truths found in scripture. The 12-Steps and 8-Principles are the foundation of the Celebrate Recovery ministry.
Q. Can I still go to my AA, NA, SA, etc. meetings?
A. Of course! At Celebrate Recovery-TrinityLife, we recognize the importance and sometimes the need for attending multiple meetings throughout the week. In fact, many who come to Celebrate Recovery attend other recovery meetings as well. We also encourage all of our leaders to attend other recovery meetings to become more familiar and comfortable with what those groups offer. If you are interested in finding other recovery meetings in the area, we have leaders who can help you do that.
Q. I don't go to church at TrinityLife. Can I still attend Celebrate Recovery?
A. Absolutely. We are one family from many different churches, denominations and backgrounds. More than half of those who attend Celebrate Recovery on Monday nights do not attend our host church at TrinityLife. However, if you are looking for a church home, you will be warmly welcomed at TrinityLife. You can learn more about TrinityLife by visiting: www.trinitylife.com
Q. I don't believe in God. Am I still welcome at Celebrate Recovery ?
A. You are welcome! Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery ministry and so we unapologetically claim Jesus Christ as our "Higher Power." We acknowledge that you may not be able to say that at this point on your journey toward recovery. Regardless, you will be welcome at Celebrate Recovery. We encourage you to keep an open mind, and to keep coming back.
Q. Can I bring my child/teenager/spouse?
A. Celebrate Recovery is a great place for families to find healing. There are couples, parents and children who attend Celebrate Recovery weekly. Celebration Place, which is the Celebrate Recovery program for children in grades K-5th is a great opportunity for children to experience recovery through age specific curriculum. You will not be permitted to have them in your group. At this time, Celebrate Recovery at TrinityLife does not offer programing for children who are not in the specified age group. We encourage you to use the Celebrate Recovery group locator to find a Celebrate Recovery in the area that offers "the Landing" which is the Celebrate Recovery program for high school age youth.
Q. How long is this going to take?
A. No one's recovery is the same. We can't promise you a week, a month or a year, but we can promise you that while you are on your road to recovery you will have a safe place with people who care about you and who will support and encourage you along the way. We have a saying "Keep coming back. It works if you work it".
Q. I can't come on Monday night. Do you meet any other time?
A. Celebrate Recovery is a ministry that has spread since 1991 across the nation and around the world. If you are not able to attend on Monday nights, chances are there is another Celebrate Recovery group meeting somewhere near you on a different night. We have developed some great relationships with the other CR groups in the Baltimore area and would love to help you get connected with one of them. You can also use the Celebrate Recovery group locator.
Q. Are your leaders therapists?
A. Our Celebrate Recovery leaders are not therapists. They are individuals who have been in recovery, completed the 12-Steps, maintained sobriety and have now chosen to give back by volunteering their time and energy to Celebrate Recovery while continuing to work on their own recoveries. The leaders at Celebrate Recovery - TrinityLife also complete ongoing training from the Celebrate Recovery advanced leadership training manual. Our leaders come from many different professions, backgrounds, and with different life experiences. They are united by their passion for seeing lives changed by God's healing power through the ministry of Celebrate Recovery.
Q. How do I know what group to go to?
A. On your first night at CR, you will attend "Newcomer's 101" where you will learn about the different groups that are offered at Celebrate Recovery - TrinityLife. You will be provided with some literature about our groups that may help you decide. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions, and your leader will be able to help you choose a group that fits your needs. If after a few weeks you wish to go to a different open share group, you are welcome to do so.
Q. Is my attending Celebrate Recovery confidential?
A. At Celebrate Recovery, we take anonymity and confidentiality seriously. The only exception to this is when someone threatens to harm themselves or someone else. We believe that making your anonymity and confidentiality a priority is one of the first steps to creating a safe place. The safe environment that CR fosters is what allows people to be vulnerable in sharing which is where healing is able to occur.
Q. What's for dinner?
A. Good question! Our dinner menu changes from week to week. What was once known as "The Best $2 Dinner in Baltimore," is now FREE! Please come and enjoy a meal with us. You may make a donation to offset our meal expense or enjoy a great dinner with our compliments. Be our guest!
